City Loop: Preview

City Loop: Preview

Making its debut into Melbourne’s music festival scene, City Loop brings the canny music programming heads of Soothsayer and I OH YOU together for a one day festival in the heart of the Melbourne CBD. With a strong local cast and an open air venue City Loop appears to have all the ingredients to fill the Spring season with a regular day party fixture for years to come.

Kicking things off at City Loop is Melbourne up-and-comer Asha, a fresh face to the circuit Asha is a DJ we’ve tipped for big things in 2019. Already featuring in venues across the city and as one of the brains behind Lounge’s monthly Loose Change events, Asha is no stranger to Melbourne’s dance floors. Playing from 1-2 on the Downtown stage, Asha will be the perfect artist to kick off your festival with a fun set, cut with a range of house, disco and everything in between.

Every preview it seems we keep on writing about CC:DISCO! and for good reason.
As one of Australia’s leading DJ’s, her stock as an artist, promoter and recently, label boss continue to rise. Her latest release ‘Nana Tuffour – Sikyi Medley’ has received appraisal from across the globe, flying off the record shelves locally and internationally. You can’t have a bad time at a CC set and we have no doubt that at City Loop this trend will continue.

Francis Inferno Orchestra

House maestro Francis Inferno Orchestra is set to bring the heat to your primetime 6-8 slot on Saturday. The man behind Superconscious Records (along with old friend Fantastic Man), Francis IO is known for his unpredictable sets, as well as providing a genuine inferno on the d-floor.

FIO has only recently returned to Melbourne from a string of international shows, where he tore through 3 continents over 8 months. In what will be his first show here since January this year, his home town will be ready to welcome him back with open arms.

Very few outfits have inspired so much fervour in a city which is frankly, spoilt for choice. It’s hard to overstate how much chatter on the streets and online the band has generated, their last 12 months has been simply meteoric. Their 2017 debut release ‘Phase’ already feels like a bona fide Melbourne classic and has found its fanfare ratified abroad with tastemakers Gilles Peterson and Bradley Zero acclaiming the release over their BBC, NTS and Worldwide FM outputs. The genre bending jazz fusion sound from the quartet has, naturally, been spellbinding in a live setting and with the band returning a more seasoned group from a recent tour across the UK one can expect a highlight of the day at Mildlife’s set.

Andy Garvey:

A seasoned curator both on the airwaves and on dance floors, Andy Garvey is rapidly finding herself one of the seminal figures in dance music in not only Sydney, but the country as a whole. A prolific radio host with regular jaunts on both Triple J, with her work programming and hosting the mix up, and on FBi as the host of ‘Pure Space’ Garvey has found eager ears across the country for her pert liveliness as a host and her aptitude of digging up selections from all strings of the dance music bow. As a dance floor selector Garvey attracts similar praise as a DJ of formidable dexterity and one who can tie together all branches of dance music minutiae into considered and thoroughly enjoyable sets.
