Premiere: 'The Sound' ft. Brownstudy
‘The Sound’ LP is the latest project from Australian born artist Inkswel. A Melbourne expat, Inkswel has had success in the studio with pressings on Dopeness Galore’, ’Firecracker’ and Rush Hour subsidiary ‘Boogie Bash’. His records have been in hot demand too, with many, including his 2016 album ‘Unity 4 Utopia’, having sold out and available only in the Discogs dog fight. In the last few years Inkswel has spent time living in Berlin, touring with Dj Spinna, remixing Amp Fiddler productions, collaborating on records with the Sonar Kollektiv, Saft Pulp and his Planetself group, not to mention the full length album released in 2016 via BBE’s ‘Beat Generation’ series.
Due to be released digitally next week, the 8-track hip hop album is brimming with collaborations from artists spanning the globe and casts a contemporary eye over old school hip hop production. Though inspirations from jazz and Madlib are clearly evident, there is enough fresh experimentation to distinguish it from the era while still keeping the nostalgic old school glow.
Though the A1 track, ‘The Sound ft. Brownstudy’ lasts just shy of two and a half minutes, the song makes up for it fleeting run time through the casual flow and mesmerising lyrics of the Motor Town vocalist, Brownstudy - it’s one for the old school heads.
The 8 track release will be available both digitally and on wax via Apparel Tronic, a branch of the quickly emerging label, ‘Apparel Music’.
