Preview: Smalltown with Ben Klock, Jennifer Cardini + Mind Against
Over the past 3 years, Smalltown has developed a burgeoning reputation of curating some of Melbourne’s most memorable dance parties. On May 11th, they return to create techno pandemonium, pairing up with the team from B3 in what promises to be an audio-visual delight. The stellar Line-up features the one and only Ben Klock, a resident at Berghain and a leading figure in Germany’s techno movement. Expect your body to be reverberating for days to come after a pulsating set from one of the world’s most sought-after DJs.
Co-headlining will be brotherly duo Mind Against whose cerebral blend of IDM, house and techno will take minds on a wandering and contemplative journey. Correspondent Records founder Jennifer Cardini, enjoying her time in the limelight after a decade of carving a niche for herself in Parisian nightclubs, will traverse the boundaries of techno through post-punk and new wave sensibilities. A depth of local talent will be supporting, including the shapeshifting Jennifer Loveless, host of radio show Weatherall which has graced Melbourne’s airwaves with eclectic mixes since 2015.
John Fish’s artwork was a mesmerising sight at previous Smalltown events and the innovative studio returns to thoughtfully bring together the stage and lighting design. A Funktion-One sound system to be provided by Full Throttle Entertainment in a never-before seen warehouse venue ensures that this will be more than merely a techno party, but an experience that will linger long in the memory.
